There are two group of bats,the insect-eating and the fruit-eating bats.One out of four mammals in the world is a bats.the have special tendons to hold their toes together while hanging upside down.
Not all bats roost in caves,as commonly believed.Some prefer trees or building.The flying foxes love to roost in big trees,often screeching and squawking to establish territory or to fight for food.when dusk,they leave their roost to feed on fruit and nectar,pollen and leaves.
In Malaysia,the Malayyan flying foxes are the largest bats in the world with a wingspan of up to 1.7m. In deforestation and urbanisation, flying foxes are fast losing their homes.
The bats,consuming some of the fruit in the orchards is only a small wage for playing matchmaking and pollinating the flowers.The consuming of fruit,they also help to disperse the seeds far away from their parent plants to ensure that the seedlings grow in an environment with less competition for nutrition and sunlight.
